Commercial Sustainability

Commercial sustainability involves the use of markets to sell products or services to generate revenues sufficient to cover the cost of an organization. To commercialize an organization’s activity for the purpose of assuring sustainability requires the orchestration and focus of that organization’s multiple disciplines towards that singular goal. Every facet of the organization needs to be on board.

A clearly articulated vision of commercial sustainability that has organization-wide buy-in is a key first step. A set of objectives can then be formulated as the basis for the strategic positioning and implementation of tactics to position the organization’s value against new commercial opportunities. Each element of the organization – including finance, accounting, production, quality assurance, marketing, sales, distribution, administration, and management – must work in concert toward the goal of commercialization.
